Research Project With Queens University
In 2011 ANCY collaborated with Queens University on a research project to look at the successes of the Artist in Community Education (ACE). Because of the community focus to this teacher training program students must have a professional background in the arts. ANCY and others have identified the gap in training for community based arts program for children and youth and the focus of the research was to bridge an understanding between the ACE program and the skills learned that also bridges community practice with educational practice.
In March of 2012, ANCY wrapped up the Health Promotions Through the Arts Project. 2400 youth aged 12-18 took part in Forum Theatre workshops that helped them address issues such as mental health suicide and drug and alcohol abuse. ANCY partnered with local community organizations Debajehmujig Theatre, Jumblies Theatre and Unity Charity to run these workshops in 16 urban, rural and First Nations communities across Ontario.
